Akoma Ntoaso Summer Exchange Program

Coming Summer 2021 . . . the Akoma Ntoaso Summer Exchange Program

Introducing the Akoma Ntoaso Program, a four week summer exchange experience that will be offered by the Play and Learn Foundation starting in 2021. This program offers non-Ghanaian students and individuals (18+) from the USA and other countries the opportunity to experience Ghanaian culture through cultural immersion within the classroom, community service, and field trips designed to facilitate direct community interaction.

Program Overview

The Foundation

The Play and Learn Foundation (PAL) works to empower Ghanaian youth through a combination of academics, athletics, mentorship, and community outreach. Our goal is to help under-served children develop the skills needed to become leaders in their local and global communities. In the past 5 years, we have increased the number of children we serve and continued to expand our community-based initiatives. We are excited for you to join our efforts. Together, our stars will shine!

The Location

The Play and Learn Foundation operates out of Legon, a suburb of the Ghanaian capital, Accra. Legon is home to the University of Ghana, one of the most prestigious universities on the continent. As a university town, Legon is full of interesting people, sites, history, and shops. Plus, being close to the big city means ample opportunity for excitement!

The Akoma Ntoaso Summer Exchange Program will take you beyond the city limits too. We have planned a variety of field trips  that will expose you to the beautiful landscapes and rich cultural sites of our country.

The Program

Akoma Ntoaso is a Ghanaian Adinkra symbol that signifies ‘linked hearts.’ This is the perfect name for our summer exchange program. During this 4-week immersive experience, you will learn what respectful community service looks like; experience some of about Ghana's incredible culture and diversity; and make connections with your fellow travelers and with members of our community. We have partnered with the University of Ghana to offer you a 3-credit hour academic course in Service Learning, which may be transferred to your home university. You will be able to put your learning into practice by helping the Play and Learn Foundation with our various initiatives. And, between field trips and free time, you will have plenty of opportunities to get to know our amazing country!

Why Akoma Ntoaso?
